I will offer You my grateful heart, for I am Your unique creation, filled with wonder and awe. You have approached even the smallest details with excellence; Your works are wonderful; I carry this knowledge deep within my soul.
Psalm 139:14 Voice
Gratitude is a huge part of our relationship with God.
He does so much for us, loves us deeply, cares about the smallest details of our lives, and wants to give us a good future. But all too often, we get so caught up in ourselves — what we feel, what we want to do, what we do and don’t have — that we miss out on how deeply God loves us. Gratitude helps us always keep that perspective, no matter what is going on around us.
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6-7 NLT
When we have a lot of stress and anxiety in our lives, we need the peace that “exceeds anything we can understand.” But it can be easy to skip over one significant step to get there: to thank God for all he has done.
Thankfulness is an important part of experiencing the peace of God. And if that’s not a compelling enough reason to develop more gratitude, check out some of these research-backed benefits of regular gratitude practices (including prayer) on our mental and physical health:
- Boosted immune system
- Improved mental health
- Improved relationships
- Increased optimism
Gratitude helps us slow down, reflect, and “carry deep within our souls” who God is and what he does for us. It helps us get closer in and enjoy friendships.
