Then I realized that my heart was bitter, and I was all torn up inside. [22] I was so foolish and ignorant— I must have seemed like a senseless animal to you. [23] Yet I still belong to you; you hold my right hand. [24] You guide me with your counsel, leading me to a glorious destiny.
Psalm 73:21-24 NLT
When life doesn’t always go the way we want to, it can be easy to get angry and bitter, whether it’s toward God or people. But like the psalmist says, even in our most bitter moments, God still cares about and wants to help us. He wants to lead us into a glorious destiny, if only we let him.
Whom have I in heaven but you? I desire you more than anything on earth. [26] My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart; he is mine forever
Psalm 73:25-26 NLT
Psalm 73 ends with the psalmist realizing that the solution to his bitterness and jealousy is seeing that he already has all that he needs. He sees that God is able to meet his every need, and so he is happy, grateful, and content. When we are stuck in bitterness, it can be hard to see what we can be grateful, and how God is trying to help us.
That’s where music can help us. Music speaks to the soul and helps us express parts of ourselves that are too deep for words. Through music, we can understand and express our sadness, anger, happiness, insecurity, and so much more. Through music, we can go from being bitter and angry about our lives, to feeling gratitude and content with what we have In other words – from feeling hateful to feeling grateful.
This playlist is meant to display the same progression David went through in the Psalms – starting with songs about feeling lonely, rejected, and afraid of being known, and progressing to seeing how God loves us for who we are and understands what we go through. Though this progression is meant to help you work through your emotions as you listen, you can listen to the playlist in whatever order you want – it is meant to help you work through, understand and express the emotions of your heart!
