Then I said to them, “You see the trouble we are in: Jerusalem lies in ruins, and its gates have been burned with fire. Come, let us rebuild the wall of Jerusalem, and we will no longer be in disgrace.” I also told them about the gracious hand of my God on me and what the king had said to me. They replied, “Let us start rebuilding.” So they began this good work.

    Nehemiah 2:17–18 NIV

Nehemiah’s intimacy with God gave him the confidence to take action and inspired others to join him.

Nehemiah was willing to take such bold action because he did not merely agree intellectually that God was great—he really believed it. This is exactly the type of active faith that God desires today from those who believe in him. God knows that theories, platitudes, and religious behaviors cannot inspire those who find him unattractive. They need to see Christians living lives of action and changing the world right before their eyes.

The following is a playlist based on Chapter 7 of the book, He’s Not Who You Think He Is: Dropping Your Assumptions and Discovering God for Yourself, to inspire and motivate you to take the same God-inspired action Nehemiah took. Music can help spur us on, where we can not only intellectually understand the need for change to the world around us, but be stirred in our hearts to become the people who bring that change.

We hope these songs help you, and even if not all songs connect with you personally, we hope it can inspire you to make your own playlists of songs that challenge you to take action and change the world, one person at a time.
