Courage is the ability to stare down the things that scare you and do them anyway.
I wake up every day with a lot of fearful thoughts and anxiety. So today I have 4 stories of courage in the Bible that will inspire us to defeat fearful thoughts by learning to depend on God.
Moses: The courage to let go of the past
But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?” He said, “But I will be with you, and this shall be the sign for you, that I have sent you: when you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God on this mountain.”Exodus 3:11-12 ESV
David: The courage to face a giant
And David said to Saul, “Let no man’s heart fail because of him. Your servant will go and fight with this Philistine.” And Saul said to David, “You are not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him, for you are but a youth, and he has been a man of war from his youth.” And David said, “The LORD who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.” And Saul said to David, “Go, and the LORD be with you!”1 Samuel 17:32-33, 37 ESV
Esther: The courage to leave your comfort zone
“Go and gather together all the Jews of Susa and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. My maids and I will do the same. And then, though it is against the law, I will go in to see the king. If I must die, I must die.”Esther 4:16 NLT
Daniel: The courage to stand up for what you believe in
When Daniel knew that the document had been signed, he went to his house where he had windows in his upper chamber open toward Jerusalem. He got down on his knees three times a day and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as he had done previously.Daniel 6:10 ESV
