Settle in
Take a deep breath. Turn off notifications on your phone if you can. Ask God to give you strength and help you be prepared for the spiritual battles you’re facing today.
Thought starter
Would you walk into a battle wearing flip-flops and a hoodie? Would you walk into a sword fight with a toothpick? Then why face spiritual warfare without your armor?
We all face what the Bible calls “spiritual battles.” Ephesians 6 is all about how the devil and dark forces fight for our souls, wanting to leave us feeling negative, discouraged, doubtful, bitter, mistrustful, and alone. We need spiritual armor to face these spiritual battles. God gives us armor that actually works—but we have to put it on.
Here’s what we’ll learn in this Quick Quiet Time:
- We need to know how we get spiritually attacked so we can know how to spiritually fight.
- God gives us spiritual armor that’s strong and makes us ready to face anything.
- We need to wear that armor every day so we can win the battles we’re in.
Fight the right battles
Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.
Ephesians 6:11-12 NLT
Truth bomb:
Your true battle is spiritual, not personal.
It’s easy to focus on the wrong battles, like these:
- Getting mad at the people around us instead of working together with them.
- Getting sidetracked by superficial problems instead of addressing the deeper spiritual issues.

Know your real enemy
Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm.
Ephesians 6:13 NLT
Be sober [well balanced and self-disciplined], be alert and cautious at all times. That enemy of yours, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion [fiercely hungry], seeking someone to devour.
1 Peter 5:8 AMP
Mic drop moment:
Armor isn’t optional. It’s survival gear for your soul.
- Stand firm. The goal isn’t just to survive, but to stand firm in victory, holding your position until the attack is over.
- The armor enables you to endure spiritual attacks and resist temptation without giving up.
Truth bomb:
You’re being targeted. Stay sharp. Stay armored.
- Keep your head clear and stay in control. The devil is like a hungry, roaring lion always looking for an easy meal—someone who is distracted or off guard.
- Your spiritual defense is to be well-balanced (not controlled by stress or emotion) and self-disciplined (making smart choices). Stay sharp, stick to your spiritual game plan, and you won’t be his next target.
Fight with spiritual weapons
So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
James 4:7 NLT
We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments. [5] We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ.
2 Corinthians 10:4-5 NLT
Truth bomb:
The devil doesn’t just leave; you must resist him. Active resistance is how you win.
- The devil won’t back off unless you stand against him. Submitting to God is like putting on spiritual armor—it’s what makes your resistance powerful and forces the enemy to retreat.
Lightbulb moment:
God gives you the power to control your thoughts.
- Your spiritual armor and weapons have divine power to tear down the enemy’s mental and emotional attacks—lies, fear, and negativity.
- We can resist these mental and emotional attacks by using the Bible: replacing our thoughts with Scriptures, believing the Bible over our emotions, and obeying the Bible over our fear and doubt.
Gear Check
Wrap the belt of truth around you.
Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. [14] Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist…
Ephesians 6:13-14a NIV
The point: The belt holds everything else together. Knowing and believing God’s truth about himself, you, and the battle is the foundation of your defense and stability. Speaking the truth even when it’s scary sets you up to put on the rest of your armor.
The question: How can I believe God’s truth over the devil’s lies? How can I be honest?
Wear the breastplate of righteousness.
…with the breastplate of righteousness in place.
Ephesians 6:14b NIV
Fun fact: In Roman military gear, the breastplate protected vital organs—symbolizing how righteousness guards the heart and soul in spiritual battles.
The point: The breastplate guards your heart and core emotions. It’s not about your perfect record, but the righteousness of Christ covering you.
- What does “righteousness” mean? It’s doing what is right in God’s eyes and living in a way that shows honesty, kindness, and faith.
The question: How will I guard my heart?
Walk in the shoes of the gospel.
… and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.
Ephesians 6:15 NIV
The point: You can move quickly and confidently because you stand on the sure ground of peace with God. Your readiness is sharing the Good News, which is found in the Bible and stabilizes you in the face of conflict.
The question: How can I share the Good News and find confidence and stability in my purpose?
Carry your shield.
In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil.
Ephesians 6:16 NLT
The point: Faith isn’t just belief—it’s defense. When doubt, temptation, or attack comes flying at you, raise your shield and stand firm.
The question: How will I build my faith?
Use your sword.
…take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
Ephesians 6:17b NLT
The point: The Word of God isn’t just for reading—it’s for fighting. Speak it. Declare it. Let Scripture slice through lies and fear. Don’t use a toothpick—use the sword of the Spirit.
The question: What Scriptures can help me fight my battles?
Put on the helmet of salvation.
Accept God’s salvation as your helmet…
Ephesians 6:17a NCV
But we belong to the day, so we should control ourselves. We should wear faith and love to protect us, and the hope of salvation should be our helmet.
1 Thessalonians 5:8 NCV
The point: The helmet protects your mind. Your confident hope in eternal salvation gives you a clear and steady mind, protecting you from the enemy’s attacks of doubt, fear, despair, negativity, and harmful thoughts or suspicions.
The question: How will I protect my mind?
Stay prepared with prayer.
Pray in the Spirit at all times with all kinds of prayers, asking for everything you need. To do this you must always be ready and never give up. Always pray for all God’s people.
Ephesians 6:18 NCV
I will answer them before they even call to me. While they are still talking about their needs, I will go ahead and answer their prayers!
Isaiah 65:24 NLT
The point: Prayer activates your armor before the battle even begins. God hears your prayer before it even leaves your lips. Praying about anything and everything helps us stand firm in the battle.
The question: What can I pray about this week to help me fight?
Reflect:
- Which piece of God’s armor am I most likely to forget or neglect?
- What battles am I trying to fight without the gear God gave?
- How can I make “putting on the armor” a daily habit?
Daily reminder
- Before you scroll, suit up.
- Before you stress, speak Scripture.
- Before you react, remember your armor.
