The steps of a man are ordered by the LORD who takes delight in his journey.

Psalm 37:23 BSB

Let us keep looking to Jesus. He is the one who started this journey of faith. And he is the one who completes the journey of faith.

Hebrews 12:2 NIrV

Faith is a journey.

God delights in our journey, and we can too. Seeing our spiritual lives as a journey can be very relieving and even exciting. Rather than trying to reach a certain goal, we can enjoy the experiences we go through and how they help us connect with God at a deeper level.

Our article, “The Blueprint for Living Spiritually,” outlines a five-step journey to building a soul connection with God. As a fun way to enjoy our spiritual growth, we put together a quiz to identify which stage of the journey we are at today. The results of this quiz will guide us to a section of that article that will most accurately meet our spiritual needs.

As a fun addition, we have included a character from one of our favorite spiritually-themed shows, Avatar: The Last Airbender with each result (the animated version). Some of the most inspiring movies and TV shows are the ones that show us a hero’s journey, and Avatar is one of those shows. We hope you enjoy finding yourself in these results and catching a vision about where your hero’s journey may lead you next.

Remember, there are no right or wrong answers to this quiz, only honest ones that may help reveal some strengths or weaknesses in our spiritual lives. Answer each question by choosing the option that best describes how you are doing right now.

Note: The results may not perfectly describe you, but they’re a great place to start conversations with God and friends as you compare answers and grow together!

Soul Power – Living a life of deep humility

You are in the deep humility stage of your spiritual journey!

If you’re in this stage, you might be a little like Zuko from Avatar: The Last Airbender. Zuko is quite possibly the most complex of all the Avatar characters, and he almost certainly has the greatest character growth. As the banished prince, Zuko spends a good chunk of the show hunting down Aang and his friends to prove himself. But in all his anger, bravado, and pride, Zuko is driven by deep shame and his fear of never being good enough:

As Uncle Iroh says, true humility is the only antidote to shame. If we are to have “soul power,” we need our source of strength to change. We need to let go of the shame, pride, and self-reliance that drive us and admit the truth: we are not strong enough to continue the journey, but God is.

I begged the Lord three times to take this problem away from me. But the Lord said, “My grace is all you need. Only when you are weak can everything be done completely by my power.” So I will gladly boast about my weaknesses. Then Christ’s power can stay in me. Yes, I am glad to have weaknesses if they are for Christ. I am glad to be insulted and have hard times. I am glad when I am persecuted and have problems, because it is when I am weak that I am really strong.

2 Corinthians 12:8-10 ERV

Living a life of deep humility means we no longer are afraid of seeing or communicating our weaknesses because we realize “the weaker we are the more powerful we become.” Once Zuko accepted what he perceived as weakness—the emotion and passion that made him so different from his cold and calculated father and sister—and embraced his need for those around him, he was able to unlock a power that no one could take away.

When we let go of our need to prove ourselves or hide our weaknesses, we too will unleash a power beyond human abilities that can only come from walking with God.

Reflect:

  • Who am I likely to turn to in times of crisis? List five relationships.
  • How would I compare my trust in people to my trust in God?
  • How would I compare my humility with people to my humility with God?
  • When I experience weaknesses, do I share them or hide them?

Read:

So he said to me, “This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the LORD Almighty.

Zechariah 4:6 NIV

Jesus had access to a power beyond anything anyone had ever seen. He shows us how we can also access that power through faith and humility in Matthew 17:14-20 NLT and Luke 17:5-6 AMP.

Listen:

Fire fire
Fall on us
Start a new revival
Fire fall on us…
Just like you did it before
Lord we are ready for more.”
