The Destiny Prayer

For those who sense they were born for more.

Esther was an orphan. No parents. No identity. No reason to believe she mattered. Yet God had positioned her—through her cousin Mordecai’s care, through unlikely circumstances, through a beauty contest she didn’t ask for—to become the Queen of Persia.

And then came the moment. Her people faced annihilation, and Mordecai challenged her to take action:

When Esther’s words were reported to Mordecai, he sent back this answer: “Do not think that because you are in the king’s house you alone of all the Jews will escape. For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?”

Esther 4:12–14 NIV

Esther faced the choice we all face: pray or harden. She could ignore her destiny and choose self-preservation, or she could fast, removing every distraction to align herself completely with God’s will. If you keep reading her story, you’ll find she chose the latter.

It’s perplexing that many believe in destiny but not in God. Others believe in God but not in personal calling. Scripture is clear—God creates and God calls, whether our assignment feels large or small. And here’s another truth: destiny is nearly impossible to discern or sustain without prayer. Prayer softens our hearts to receive our calling. A soft heart can fathom the idea of a God greater than us, filled with love, who has it in his mind to give us purposeful lives—and the help to get there.

Could it be that much of today’s turmoil, chaos, division, anger, and apathy comes from failing to pray the Destiny Prayer? Too many, especially the young, feel purposeless. This prayer changes that.

Perception — A prayer to change how you see

“God, help me see my identity as calling, not coincidence. Show me that where I am is not random—that I was placed here with intention, born with purpose.”

Process — A prayer to change how you think

“God, change how I think about my past, my present, and my future. Help me process my life through the lens of your purposes, not just my pain. Show me how even the hard things—the losses, the detours, and the disappointments—might be shaping me for the moment I was born for.”

Purpose — A prayer to change what you live for

“God, I confess that I often live for comfort, safety, approval, or ambition. Forgive this selfish and empty version of myself. Purify my motives. Show me what you created me for—not for my glory, but for yours; to help others, not just myself.”

Path — A prayer to change where you are going

“God, give me clarity about the next step. Remove the distractions that keep me scattered and unfocused. Help me fast from whatever keeps me from hearing you clearly—whether that’s noise, busyness, fear, or the opinions of others. Give me the courage to let go of the old me and take the path of faith even when it seems impossible. Give me the confidence that purposeful obedience will lead me to the beautiful life you promise. And when I’m tempted to step back into safety, remind me: I was born for such a time as this.”
