DIY: The Book of John – Chapters 7-9

Read John chapter seven

After this, Jesus traveled around Galilee. He wanted to stay out of Judea, where the Jewish leaders were plotting his death. 2 But soon it was time for the Jewish Festival of Shelters, 3 and Jesus’ brothers said to him, “Leave here and go to Judea, where your followers can see your miracles! 4 You can’t become famous if you hide like this! If you can do such wonderful things, show yourself to the world!” 5 For even his brothers didn’t believe in him.

• Jesus is always reminding the disciples and people to look beyond what’s right in front of them.
• Jesus was a man of depth
• The more you learn about Jesus, the more you can learn about God.
• The people were divided about Jesus.

Jesus returned to the Mount of Olives, 2 but early the next morning he was back again at the Temple. A crowd soon gathered, and he sat down and taught them. 3 As he was speaking, the teachers of religious law and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in the act of adultery. They put her in front of the crowd.

• Some challenges in our lives simply exist so that when we learn about and follow God, we can see his power more clearly.
• The Pharisees did not want to acknowledge Jesus’ power so instead, they decided to criticize and critique him.
