About the study

Settle in: Take a deep breath. Turn off notifications on your phone if you can. Reflect on your life’s foundation. Ask God to show you where you’re building on the solid ground of the Bible, honesty, and humility—and where you might be relying on pride, deceit, or appearances.

Scripture reflection

Before continuing, read this full passage and circle, underline, or highlight any words that stand out to you: Matthew 7:24–27 NIV.

Read Matthew 7:25 NIV slowly. Let it sink in:

“The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.”

Matthew 7:25 NIV
  • Building on the rock isn’t about perfection—it’s about being grounded in God’s Word instead of trying to handle things alone.
  • Jesus shows us how to stand and live through storms.
  • You can stand firm against the challenges at school, work, or home if you’re living by the Word of God.

Thought starter

  • Deceit says: “Just pretend everything is fine.”
  • Pride says: “I can handle this on my own.”
  • Jesus says: “Follow me. I am the truth, and I will be your firm foundation.”

Honesty means we stop pretending and start living in the light.

Humility means we stop relying on ourselves and start trusting God.

A wise life is built on these two biblical pillars of honesty and humility. With them, we can not only survive storms, but also thrive in the beautiful life God has planned for us.

The building blocks of honesty and humility.

        Read:

Everyone who does evil deeds hates the light. They will not come into the light. They are afraid that what they do will be seen. [21] But anyone who lives by the truth comes into the light. They live by the truth with God’s help. They come into the light so that it will be easy to see their good deeds.

        John 3:20-21 NIrV

Pride leads only to shame; it is wise to be humble.

        Proverbs 11:2 NCV

Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.

        James 4:10 NIV

        Lightbulb moment:

Spiritual growth happens one honest, humble choice at a time.

        • The Bible teaches us to handle life by being truthful and humble.
        • Turning from pride and lies means letting God rebuild your heart with truth and forgiveness so you can be more like him.

        Reflect:

        • Where am I being less than honest with myself or with God?
        • In what areas of my life do I need to let go of pride and trust God more?
        • What would change if I focused on building a stronger spiritual foundation instead of just living on the surface?

        Write it down:

        • Write down one area where you need to be more honest.
        • Write down one specific way you can practice humility this week.

        Final thought.

        Build with real strength

Just like a house needs a strong foundation to stand through storms, our lives need honesty and humility to handle tough times. If we build our lives on pride or pretending, things might look fine—but they won’t hold up when life gets hard. God wants us to build with real strength by being honest and humble, not just trying to look good on the outside. Build your life on God’s Word as the standard, and see how much your life will grow.

        Closing prayer

“Lord, help me build my life on the solid foundation of Your Word. Teach me to walk in honesty and humility, trusting You more each day. May my heart be open, my steps be steady, and my life reflect Your grace. Amen.”
