Thought starter
And [your] life shall be clearer than the noonday and rise above it; though there be darkness, it shall be as the morning.
Job 11:17 AMPC
Tough times happen to everyone. But Scripture promises that although darkness and difficult moments may come, they donโt have to feel like a permanent “midnight” when God is involved. He turns those moments into new morningsโfull of hope, fresh starts, and light that overcomes darkness.
Rising means we never stay knocked down, we move forward past difficulty, and we grow to become who God is calling us to be. With God, we can always rise and turn our midnights into mornings.
Hereโs what weโll learn in this Quick Quiet Time:
- Rising begins with resilience and rest.
- The Holy Spirit is what makes rising possible.
- We rise together, and we are working toward an eternal rise.
Rising begins with resilience.
He gives strength to the faint and strengthens the powerless. [30] Youths may become faint and weary, and young men stumble and fall, [31] but those who trust in the LORD will renew their strength; they will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not become weary, they will walk and not faint.
Isaiah 40:29-31 CSB
โฆ for the righteous falls seven times and rises again, but the wicked stumble in times of calamity.
Proverbs 24:16 ESV
Truth bomb:
Weary doesnโt have to mean powerless. God renews our strength when we trust him.
- Scripture acknowledges that life can be exhausting.
- Even if we are tired, we can still rise.
- Itโs okay to fall and be weak. Faith gives us the resilience we need to get back up again.
Metaphor moment:
Resilience is like a runner on the last mile of a marathon. Their lungs are burning, their legs are shaking, but they refuse to stop because theyโve got their eyes on the finish line.

Rising means resting with God.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
Matthew 11:29 NIV
Truth bomb:
True renewal doesnโt come from trying harder, but from leaning into Godโs gentleness.
- Jesus invites us to trade our heavy burdens for his โyoke,โ turning our solo struggle into a walk we share with him.
- This rest is deeper than our typical chill day. Itโs peace with God.
- Rising isnโt about grinding harder. Itโs about soulโrest.
The paradox:
As humans, we often assume that rising means working nonstop to reach our potential. Jesus says that rising begins with resting with him. Time spent alone with God helps us recharge our spirits.
Nerd note:
In Jesusโs day, a yoke was a wooden frame connecting two oxen so they could pull a load together, making it easier to carry. Jesus is saying: Stop pulling alone. Pull with me.
Rising starts in the mind.
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what Godโs will isโhis good, pleasing and perfect will.
Romans 12:2 NIV
Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
Romans 12:2 NLT
Key takeaway:
Moving forward is possible when our internal perspective matches God’s.
- We cannot rise to a new level while thinking the same old way.
- Renewal starts inside and works its way out. A changed heart leads to changed actions.
- Renewal means that instead of letting the world shape our thoughts and reactions, we allow God to reshape our mindset so we can understand what God values
Reflect:
- What old mindset or belief is God asking me to release so I can rise to the level he is calling me to?
- How would my decisions shift today if my mind were fully aligned with Godโs perspective instead of my own?
Rising is powered by the Spirit.
โฆhe saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spiritโฆ
Titus 3:5 NIV
I will also put a new spirit in you to change your way of thinking. I will take out the heart of stone from your body and give you a tender, human heart.
Ezekiel 36:26 ERV
Key takeaway:
We donโt rise because we deserve it. Renewal is a gift God gives us through his Holy Spiritโs power.
- The Holy Spirit performs the โwashingโ and โnew birthโ โwe can always be made new when we come closer to God.
- We can rise past any challenge, difficulty, or setback because God makes us new through his Spirit. Not because we did anything to earn or work for it.
Metaphor moment:
Imagine you are lost at sea, and God is waiting for you on land. We often try to โrowโ our way to God, exhausting ourselves with effort. But the Spirit is like the wind. You don’t create the wind, and you canโt control itโyou simply unfold your sails and let its power lift and move you to safety.
Rising is made possible through unity.
In this new life, it doesnโt matter if you are a Jew or a Gentile, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbaric, uncivilized, slave, or free. Christ is all that matters, and he lives in all of us.
Colossians 3:11 NLT
He makes the whole body grow and build itself up in love. Under the control of Christ, each part of the body does its work. It supports the other parts. In that way, the body is joined and held together.
Ephesians 4:16 NIrV
Key takeaway:
In Christ, everyone is equal because he lives in all of us.
- When we rise in Christ, we rise above any differences that might otherwise divideโdifferences like race, status, background, or culture.
- We can rise together because who we are is no longer based on labels or differences, but on Jesus.
- Unity builds everyone up. When each one of us does our part, everyone gets stronger! Every person matters.
Metaphor moment:
Think of an orchestra. You have violins, drums, and flutes and moreโall totally different. If they play alone, thatโs all they areโjust lonely instruments. But when they follow the same conductor, each individual instrument rises into a single piece of music. You don’t hear โbrassโ or โstringsโ anymore; you just hear the song. We rise when we stop playing our own tune and start playing Godโs together.
Reflect:
- Who has God put in my life to rise together?
- What differences do I need to put aside to rise and grow together with the people in my life?
Rising leads to glory.
Jesus said to them, โTruly I tell you, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.โ
Matthew 19:28 NIV
For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
2 Corinthians 4:17โ18 NIV
โฆbeing confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
Philippians 1:6 NIV
Key takeaway:
Our present struggles are preparing us for future glory.
- This is the ultimate riseโfrom followers to coโheirs of Godโs kingdom.
- Those who endure the process of spiritual renewal will sit in places of honor and authority.
Closing thoughts:
When God talks about rising, heโs referring to both a journey and a promise: if you keep moving, keep yielding, and keep trusting, God will finish what he started in you.
- Renewal is not a momentโit is a layered process of strength, rest, mindset, Spirit, unity, and destiny.
- Each stage builds on the last, lifting us from weariness to purpose, from burden to rest, from old patterns to transformed thinking, from selfโeffort to Spiritโpowered renewal, from isolation to shared identity, and from struggle to glory.
Final reflection:
- Where do you need renewal right now? How can God help you rise in that area today?
