The Church Exodus: Why Attendance is Declining in America

Over the years, research has shown us that more and more people have been losing their interest in attending church, and these numbers have been multiplied over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This church attendance decline doesn’t necessarily mean that people are losing their interest in God or a higher power, but it’s still important. The way we live and conduct ourselves will greatly influence others’ view of seeking out God and a spiritual community.

“Why do your disciples disobey our age-old tradition? For they ignore our tradition of ceremonial hand washing before they eat.” Jesus replied, “And why do you, by your traditions, violate the direct commandments of God?”

Research tells us what we already know: traditions, rules, and organizations do not meet our spiritual needs. Jesus offers something different—the power to change things that feel impossible to change, to move the mountains that refuse to move.

Then Jesus said to the disciples, “Have faith in God. I tell you the truth, you can say to this mountain, ‘May you be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and it will happen. But you must really believe it will happen and have no doubt in your heart. [24] I tell you, you can pray for anything, and if you believe that you’ve received it, it will be yours. [25] But when you are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding a grudge against, so that your Father in heaven will forgive your sins, too.”
