The Chosen clip – “I make A way”

Watch how Jesus makes the invisible God visible.

Thought starter

Ever felt like you wanted to get to know God, but donโ€™t know how? Thatโ€™s where Jesus comes in. Jesus came to earth not just to save us from our sins, but to help us know and understand God. Jesus is God in human form (John 1:14), so anything we read about Jesus is true about God.ย

So when we want to find our way home to God, Jesus is our bridge to get there.

Hereโ€™s what weโ€™ll learn in this Quick Quiet Time:

  • If we want to get to know God, we should start with Jesus.
  • Jesus is the way to finding love, forgiveness, and strength.
  • We can get to know Jesus by reading the Gospels in the Bible.

The Way Home 3

Jesus is the perfect reflection of God.

No one can see God, but the Son is exactly like God. He rules over everything that has been made. Through his power all things were made: things in heaven and on earth, seen and not seen- all spiritual rulers, lords, powers, and authorities. Everything was made through him and for him. The Son was there before anything was made. And all things continue because of him.

Colossians 1:15-17 ERVย

Mirror metaphor: Jesus is the perfect reflection of Godโ€”a clear, polished mirror showing us exactly what God is like.

  • If weโ€™re struggling to see or trust God, we should look at Jesus. He takes away guilt, shame, and lonelinessโ€”and fills our lives with purpose, peace, and love.
  • We see Jesusโ€™s life in the four books of the Bible called the Gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.

Reflect:

  • If Jesus reflects God perfectly, what do his kindness, courage, and honesty show you about who God really is?

The Way Home 4

Jesus is the way to God.

Jesus answered, โ€œI am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.โ€

John 14:6 NIVย

Runway metaphor: Jesus is like a single, lighted runway guiding us safely home to God.

  • At night, those runway lights help pilots land. Jesus does the sameโ€”lighting our path and helping us land safely in Godโ€™s presence.

Reflect:

  • Think of a decision you need to make this weekโ€”big or small. How could Jesus guide you down the right path? What scriptures could help you follow Jesusโ€™s directions?

The Way Home 5

Jesus is the bridge to God.

For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus.

1 Timothy 2:5 NIVย

Bridge metaphor: Picture a river so wide no one could ever swim across it.

  • Jesus is the bridgeโ€”strong, steady, and sureโ€”connecting us to God when we couldnโ€™t get there on our own.

Reflect:

  • Is there a part of your life that feels far from God?
  • What would it look like to let Jesus bridge that gap?

Deeper dive:

  • Do you believe in God, Jesus, and the Bible with your whole heart?
  • If not, whatโ€™s holding you back?

The Way Home 6

Jesus is the open door to access God.

For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit.

Ephesians 2:18 NIV

Let us then approach Godโ€™s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

Hebrews 4:16 NIVย

Key metaphor: Jesus holds the master key. He unlocked the once-closed throne room of heaven and flung the doors wide open.

  • Weโ€™re not just allowed inโ€”weโ€™re welcomed because of Jesus!

Reflect:

  • Whatโ€™s one thing youโ€™ve been holding back from God that you could say to him today, now that you know the door is open?

The Way Home 7

Jesus is the gate to salvation.

I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out, and find pasture.

Isaiah 25:4  NIV

Gate metaphor: Jesus is like a strong, secure gateโ€”leading us out of chaos and into peace, clarity, and purpose.

  • Through him, we find rest and direction.

Reflect:

  • What would it mean for you to step through that gate todayโ€”letting go of fear and walking into peace?

The Way Home 8

Jesus is our compassionate advocate.

Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we areโ€”yet he did not sin. Let us then approach Godโ€™s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

Hebrews 4:14-16 NIVย

Lightbulb moment:

Jesus gets it. Heโ€™s been there. He understands our struggles and fights for us to get the mercy we need.

  • Jesus understands our struggles. Jesus empathizes with us. He not only understands but feels our pain.

Reflect:

  • ย How does Jesusโ€™s empathy change the way you pray or ask for help?

Definition time: What is grace?

  • ย Lighthouse metaphor: Grace is like a lighthouse in a storm. We didnโ€™t build it. We didnโ€™t earn it. But itโ€™s thereโ€”shining to guide us home.
  • Power source metaphor: Our lives are like a lamp. It might look fineโ€”but it canโ€™t shine unless itโ€™s plugged in. Jesus is the power source. When we’re connected to him, his life lights up our hearts, our choices, and our purpose. Without him, we’re unpluggedโ€”present, but not fully alive.

Think about it

  • Are you living fully connected to Jesusโ€”or just sitting near the outlet, powerless?ย

The Way Home 9

Jesus is Godโ€™s ultimate rescue mission.

This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.

1 John 4:9-10 NIV

God sent Jesus as the ultimate rescue missionโ€”to pay the cost for our sins and bring us eternal life.

Lightbulb moment:

God took the first step. He didnโ€™t wait for us to get it together. He sent Jesusโ€”on purpose and out of love.

  • Living through Jesus means having โ€ฆ
    • โ€ฆa spiritual life: being made alive in our souls; being forgiven and connected to God.
    • โ€ฆa purposeful life: living with meaning, direction, and hope.
    • โ€ฆan eternal life: life that doesnโ€™t end when our time on earth does.
  • Jesus is the source and the way. He givesโ€ฆ
    • โ€ฆstrength when weโ€™re weak.
    • โ€ฆforgiveness when we mess up.
    • โ€ฆlove when we feel unworthy.

Think about it:

  • God made the first move. Whatโ€™s one way you can respond to him todayโ€”with love, gratitude, or action?
  • What part of your life right now needs to be lived through Jesus, not just through your own effort?

Anchor check:

How much are you really anchoring your life and hope in God, Jesus, and the Bible?

Circle your answer:
๐Ÿ”˜ 25% ๐Ÿ”˜ 50% ๐Ÿ”˜ 75% ๐Ÿ”˜ ๐Ÿ’ฏ 100%

Moving forward

Pick one Gospelโ€”Matthew, Mark, Luke, or Johnโ€”and start reading the story of Jesus.

  • Tip: The Gospel of Mark is short and action-packed if you want a quick start.
